With four floors of research and teaching labs the Meldrum Science Center is the first higher education building in the state to achieve the elusive LEED Platinum certification. This unprecedented achievement is due in large part to the phenomenal energy savings obtained by the mechanical designs. The lab utilizes energy recovery from the 100% exhausted air, 97% efficient condensing boilers, a three-stage cooling system with indirect and direct evaporative cooling and mechanical cooling from highly-efficient water-cooled chillers with oversized cooling towers. These energy saving designs make this lab the most efficient lab in the state of Utah.
