Van Boerum & Frank Associates provided the major design services for the $27,000,000 US Utah Olympic Park in conjunction with the civil engineering firm EWP of Salt Lake City Utah. This design effort included original feasibility studies, site selection, center line design and approval by FIBT and FIL, master planning and programming for Olympic and post-Olympic use, world wide track research, finish construction documents for public tender and full time resident engineering services.

This state-of-the-art refrigerated bobsleigh/luge track incorporated the experience of the tracks world wide and the ability to computer model each of the sliding sports for the track. Elements of design include athlete sliding dynamics, complete three dimensional modeling, contract documents and specifications, improved ammonia piping design, state-of-the-art ammonia refrigeration plant, utility infrastructure, coordination with National,

International and local governing bodies, successful track homologation to world cup/olympic standards. VBFA also provided full time resident engineering to ensure the strict standards of plus or minus 3 milimeters tolerance were maintained but also the style of the track for the sliding sports was maintained by the contractors.

This track design also took advantage of enhancements derived from the experience of the Lillehammer, Norway and Nagano, Japan olympic games. These enhancements increased the challenge to the athletes for a more stimulating event and to provide more separation between the finish times.
Many world records were set on this track during the 2002 Winter Olympics. The track is one of 12 internationally certified bobsled/luge tracks in the world and one of three in North America. It has 7,630 cubic yards of concrete in the track and buildings.
