This new $3 million facility replaced the old, outdated St. George Main Branch Library. The new 31,000 sq. ft. library was built in the historic district in downtown St. George on a block the City is developing for the community. The library was designed to resemble the other historic looking buildings on the block namely: The Washington County School District Administration Building and the Woodward School House, for which VBFA designed the ground source heat pump system.
Washington County specifically wanted a ground source heat pump system for the new library. As the leader in ground source heat pump design technology, VBFA was contracted for this project.
The HVAC system consists of indoor horizontal ground source heat pumps coupled with a vertical loopfield installed under the parking lot. The loopfield is 50 boreholes drilled 250 feet deep and manifolded in a pump room in the corner of the basement. The indoor heat pumps are very efficient and very quiet. Several library employees and County officials have commented about how quiet the system is and how comfortable the building feels.
