VBFA provided the mechanical engineering services for the $50 million, design-build, fast-track Salt Palace Expansion project. High-efficiency flexible water tube boilers conserve energy otherwise used to heat the building. A variable air volume (VAV) reheat system reduces fan RPM when cooling requirements are low. The roof-mounted air handlers of the HVAC system have variable frequency drives. When the outdoor temperature is moderate, a full airside economizer allows up to 100 percent of air introduced into the building to come directly from outside. Water-cooled chillers with closed
condensation systems save energy from air conditioning. The specified HVAC and refrigeration systems do not contain ozone-damaging HCFCs or halons.
