VBFA provided mechanical engineering services for the new Concourse E and FIS Facility at the northwest end of Terminal D. This 100,000 sq. ft. facility also provides offices for Skywest and Customs. A new sterile corridor was provided to bring international passengers into the new Customs Inspection Area. This facility also houses several small retail "convenience outlets." This space is served by four custom-built air handling systems utilizing hot water and chilled water from the Airport Central Plant.
Concourse C & D Expansion
VBFA provided the mechanical engineering for the remodel of the C and D Concourses, converting maintenance areas into office and parts storage spaces. Heating and air conditioning were taken from the existing duct systems serving Concourses C and D. Variable volume boxes and perimeter heating were used. The remodel of Concourse D included an employee shower area.
Airport Specialty Shops
VBFA provided the mechanical engineering for ten new specialty shops located throughout the concourses and terminals at the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLCIA). Design included remodeling the existing VAV reheat systems and remodeling the ducts to provide sufficient HVAC to the new spaces. The lighting in the new areas was increased so much that the HVAC design had to account for the extra heat gain from the lights. The ten shops were: SLC Emporium, two (2) Daily News facilities, Lids, Medals, Sporting Eyes, Wilson's, Franklin Covey, Fossil and Bar.
Skywest Maintenance Hangar
This facility is utilized as offices and aircraft maintenance for Skywest Airlines. It also has several large training rooms. The building can service several aircrafts at one time, and a fire pump and water storage tank were also included.
