Maintaining the historic nature of this Utah landmark was very important in the design which included the replacement of the existing stage and expansion of the lobby spaces and toilet rooms.
The renovation/restoration and seismic retrofit of this four-story stage house cost $11 million. Offering over 800 seats, this high-end, 66,000 square foot historic building includes hand-painted murals, dressing rooms, green room, wardrobe, laundry, rehearsal studios, docking/loading areas and reception areas. The thrust stage features a sprung floor, orchestra pit, two hydraulic orchestra lifts, 73 fly lines and a proscenium opening of 23 feet tall by 43 feet wide.
The existing steam heating and natural ventilation system was replace with a new HVAC system utilizing hot water for heating and chilled water for cooling. Several new air handlers and distribution ductwork were provided. Heating and cooling are generated at the new adjacent central heating plant.
