Edwards Lifesciences is a medical research manufacturing plant located in Midvale, Utah. The 48,000 sq. ft. facility has 22,000 sq. ft. of clean room areas that require regulated levels of space pressurization for their manufacturing processes. The air handlers that serve the clean rooms were recently retrofitted with VSD's (Variable Speed Drives) on the supply fans to maintain the required pressurization levels at lower fan speeds which results in considerable electrical energy savings.
VBFA developed a computer model that calculated the reduced fan energy requirements and then estimated the installation costs. VBFA provided all this information in a report that went to the Owner's financial decision-makers from which they decided to implement the recommendations.
