The new $65 million Dixie Regional Medical Center has 420,000 sq. ft. and consists of a three-story diagnostic and treatment wing, a five-story tower with 132 acute inpatient beds and a four-story physicians office building with space for 35 to 50 doctors. Specialty services offered include cardiac surgery, imaging, cardiology, advanced trauma care and sophisticated medical services, known as tertiary care.
The semi-arid climate of the area required a complex HVAC system. Temperatures in the summer can average 95-100 degrees. The HVAC system was required to maintain a minimum humidity of 30 percent. The 600,000 lbs. of ductwork was coated with an antimicrobial agent to prevent mold growth should moisture enter the system through an improperly sealed joint or other unintended site. The cooling system included three chillers in a central plant using environmentally friendly R134A refrigerant and 1,930 tons of chilled water. Two steam boilers provide all heating, domestic hot water, humidification and sterilization for the facility.
